Biography

Elizabeth Tobio focuses her practice on commercial and real estate litigation. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Elizabeth has handled a wide variety of matters in state and federal courts, including complex commercial disputes, intellectual property disputes, co-op and condominium disputes, commercial landlord-tenant disputes, defamation claims, human rights claims, probate litigation, and matrimonial disputes. Elizabeth has also represented clients in mediation and before arbitral tribunals. Elizabeth is a skilled writer and researcher, both at the trial court and appellate level, and she also enjoys the opportunity to argue before these tribunals. She has generously given her time to mentor newly-admitted attorneys and enjoys watching them grow and develop professionally. Throughout her career, Elizabeth has consistently demonstrated the ability to quickly earn and retain her clients' confidence.

Among the highlights of her career thus far are the drafting of a complaint alleging that the producers of a Netflix documentary series defamed the series' participants; convincing an appellate court that a condominium board breached their fiduciary duty and acted in bad faith in failing to repair a persistent leak into the client's unit which originated in a board member's unit; spearheading an investigation into Medicare fraud claims alleged in a qui tam action, which investigation directly led to a complete victory for her client on summary judgment; defended former high-level CIA executive indicted on charges of honest services fraud; and acting as lead associate in human rights action brought against former prime minister of Somalia, which included leading a team which travelled to Africa to obtain trial depositions.

Prior to attending law school, Elizabeth earned her bachelor's degree in English and World Literatures, summa cum laude, from Marymount Manhattan College, earning her degree at night while working full time during the day. Outside of work, Elizabeth enjoys playing golf, and is a member of the Long Island LPGA Amateur Golf Association and the United States Golf Association.
