Biography
Laura M. Trachtman began her practice at the Bronx County District Attorney's Office, leaving after 3 and a half years to clerk for the Honorable Judge John Ingram in Kings County Supreme Court. She moved on to focus on appellate litigation before finally settling down to a diverse practice portfolio. Laura is admitted to the bar in the State of New York, as well as the Eastern and Southern District Courts of New York, and is pending admission in the State of New Jersey.
An experienced litigator, Laura has conducted numerous hearings and trials and considers the courtroom her natural environment. She is particularly enthusiastic about motion practice and has written myriad appeals, both criminal and civil, including an appeal in the Second Department, Nelson et al v. HSBC, which resulted in the Second Department reversing itself and adopting a more liberal interpretation of the New York City Human Rights Law.
Laura is a graduate of Barnard College (BA, Chinese History, cum laude), University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (JD), and Columbia University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (MA, Chinese History).
Laura speaks, reads, and writes fluent Mandarin and is conversant in French.
A native New Yorker, Laura lives in Brooklyn Heights with her dogs, Cinders and Opal. She enjoys knitting, cooking, and reading.
