What does your wedding stress tell you about divorce?

Wondering if it's likely that your spouse will file for divorce? One key thing to consider is simply how they treated you on your wedding day.

Wedding photographers, who have a front-row seat to all of these interactions, often say that couples who do not act in a respectful manner toward each other are those who will eventually end up going into court for a divorce. Even if they grit their teeth and get through the wedding day, the way that they do it says a lot about their future.

For instance, it could mean that one spouse is too controlling. They do not respect the other person or what they want out of the relationship. That's probably not a dynamic that can last for years.

The wedding day is a good time to see what a person's true character is, some of these photographers note. It's a stressful day. There are a lot of details. It's chaotic. Everyone wants it to be perfect. That can push people to the breaking point as they try to create this perfect day.

While they may be able to hide their true character and act like they respect each other on an average day, the wedding day stress may chip away that disguise. That's when they say the things they really think and act the way they want to act. When that means they're disrespectful, it shows how they truly feel about one another.

If you decide to file for divorce or if your spouse does, make sure you understand all of your legal rights and the steps you need to take.
